Luxury Vinyl Plank Installation in La Porte
Luxury vinyl plank looks like wood, shrugs off spills and goes in fast. The plank is only half the job, though. We test and flatten the subfloor first, help you choose the right core and wear layer, then install it so the seams stay tight for years.
What luxury vinyl plank is, and when it fits
A vinyl plank is a stack of layers: a clear wear layer on top, a printed design film, a core, and often an attached pad underneath. The core decides most of how the floor behaves. SPC (stone plastic composite) is dense and stable, so it resists dents and holds its size through temperature swings. WPC (wood plastic composite) is foamed and thicker, so it feels softer and quieter underfoot but dents more easily under furniture legs. Thin flexible plank is glued down instead of clicked together, which suits rooms with heavy rolling loads.
Most homes around here sit on concrete slabs, and the Gulf Coast humidity keeps moisture moving up through that concrete. Vinyl plank handles that well because the plank itself does not swell like a wood or fiberboard product. That makes it a strong choice for kitchens, baths, laundry rooms and open living areas where you want one continuous floor.
We have been in business 25+ years and we are insured. Every installation carries a 1-year workmanship warranty, which covers how we put the floor in, from seams and transitions to trim.
What our vinyl plank installation includes
- Moisture testing on slab
- We test the concrete before any plank comes out of the box. If readings call for it, we add a vapor barrier under the floor according to the manufacturer's instructions, so the warranty on the product stays valid.
- Flatness check and leveling
- Click-lock joints fail when the floor beneath them dips or humps. We check flatness with a long straightedge, grind high spots and fill low ones with leveling compound until the surface meets the manufacturer's tolerance.
- Removal of the old floor
- We pull carpet and pad, take up old vinyl or laminate, and remove tile when needed. Tile removal leaves thinset ridges on the slab, so we scrape and grind those flat before the new floor goes down.
- Layout planned around your rooms
- We set the plank direction, stagger the end joints and plan cuts so narrow slivers do not land at a doorway or along a visible wall.
- Expansion gaps, trim and transitions
- A floating floor needs a gap at every wall and cabinet base to move with temperature. We hide that gap under baseboard or quarter round, undercut door jambs so planks slide beneath them, and fit transitions where the vinyl meets tile, carpet or a long run.
Signs vinyl plank is the right call for your home
Laminate swelling at the seams
Laminate has a fiberboard core that soaks up water at the joints and puffs up. Vinyl plank has no wood fiber to swell, so a spilled dog bowl or a dripping dishwasher stays on the surface.
Carpet in rooms that get wet
Carpet in a kitchen, bath or entry traps moisture and odor in the pad. Vinyl plank wipes clean and dries in minutes.
Cracked grout you are tired of fixing
If your tile is sound but the grout keeps failing, vinyl plank gives you a warmer, quieter floor with far fewer joints to maintain.
Pets and kids wearing through the finish
A thicker wear layer, measured in mils, holds up to claws and dragged toys far better than an older sheet vinyl or a soft finish.
You want one floor through the whole house
Because vinyl plank tolerates kitchens and baths, it can run from the front door to the back room without a material change at every doorway.
How a vinyl plank job runs
- 1
The phone call and measure
You tell us the rooms and what is on the floor now. We visit to measure, test the slab, check flatness and walk through core types and wear layers with samples in your own light.
- 2
Removal and subfloor prep
On install day we protect walls and doorways, take up the old floor and handle grinding or leveling. Prep is where a vinyl floor succeeds or fails, so we do not rush it.
- 3
Installing the plank
We lay the first rows straight off a reference line, click each joint fully closed and keep end joints staggered. Plank from several boxes gets mixed as we go so the color variation spreads evenly.
- 4
Trim, transitions and cleanup
We reinstall or replace baseboards, fit transitions and thresholds, and vacuum up the dust. A floating floor can be walked on as soon as we finish, and we show you how to care for it.

What moves the cost of vinyl plank
Square footage is only one piece of a vinyl plank price. The plank you pick and the prep your subfloor needs usually swing the number more than the size of the room. Your quote lists each step on its own line, so you can see what you are paying for.
- Core type and wear layer
- SPC, WPC and glue-down plank are priced differently, and a 20 or 22 mil wear layer costs more than a 12 mil one. We help you match the layer to how hard the room is used.
- Condition of the slab or subfloor
- A flat, dry slab needs little work. Dips, cracks, old adhesive or thinset ridges add grinding and leveling compound.
- What comes up first
- Carpet pulls up quickly. Ceramic tile set in thinset takes far more labor to remove and clean off the concrete.
- Room shape, trim and stairs
- Closets, angled walls and many doorways mean more cuts and transitions. Covering steps is separate work, which we explain on our Stair Flooring page.
Luxury vinyl plank questions we hear
Something not covered here? (346) 248-3976
Is luxury vinyl plank waterproof?
The plank itself is. Water that gets past the perimeter or through an unsealed edge can still sit on the slab underneath, so a big leak means pulling up the affected rows to dry things out. A click floor can usually be taken apart and relaid if the planks are undamaged.
Can you install vinyl plank over my existing tile?
Sometimes. The tile has to be solidly stuck down with no hollow or loose pieces, it has to be flat, and deep grout lines must be filled so they do not show through the plank. Added height at doors and appliances is the other issue, so we check both before recommending it.
Should I choose SPC or WPC?
SPC is the better pick for rooms with heavy furniture or big sunny windows, since its dense core resists dents and movement. WPC suits bedrooms and living areas where you want a softer, quieter floor. Both handle moisture well.
How does vinyl plank compare to laminate?
Laminate often has a crisper wood texture and a harder surface, but its fiberboard core swells when water gets into the seams. Vinyl plank is the safer choice in wet rooms. Our Laminate Flooring page covers where laminate still makes sense.
What warranty comes with the installation?
Every installation comes with our 1-year workmanship warranty. The plank manufacturer covers the product itself under its own terms, and we follow their install requirements so that coverage stays intact.
